NEVER BE UNDERSTOOD

BY: LIZ HARDIE

Maleficent may never be understood by people in life or the people who care

Not one to come forth with the bad or ever wanting to overshare

Her dad taught her to expect the best, prepare for the worst, and take what comes

Her mom taught her to block out the bad, which, too much in her life, she has become numb

Deep down, she still feel emotions, yet she has learned to hide them after she became a mother

Never allowing her kids to see her pain, which remained buried and smothered

When overcome with too much pain or anger, Maleficent shuts down, blocks out the world

Consumes herself with her “people”, her children, her parents, those truly concerned

They do not judge, never questioning any of her decisions or how she chooses to live

Silence, time alone with her people, is not up for discussion or open to unwanted advice

This is her life and her choice on how she wants to live it, a choice she did not have for many years

A life she lived to make others happy only made her more unhappy, living in constant fear

Maleficent feared her children’s emotional state, due to her choices, or doing the wrong thing

Refusing to discuss her life or her children’s life with anyone, this queen does not need a king

A queen like her does not need saving; Maleficent can do anything that a man can do, usually better

Not given a choice in playing both roles, exhausting as it is, most days it gives her great pleasure

Challenged when a new relationship appears, struggling with a man being in her house, in her space

As loving, caring, or helpful as he was, it was hard for him, Maleficent did not need help or daily embraces

And their priorities were different, becoming different people as they spent more time together

Maleficent’s past still haunts her, enjoying silence and calm with her two daughters, her forever’s

They work through issues, talk deeply with each other, are simple, and never judge what they see

Maleficent may never be understood, feeling more is expected, not sure what others want this strong woman to be

Family time is important to her; it has always been a priority, and she would like that to remain

When in a relationship or married, it was the girls and her, so Maleficent promised them it would stay the same

Maleficent knows it may not be forever, but refuses to break that promise, as they have been hurt way too much

Making it clear time with her girls is the best, expects understanding not questions to feel like a bitch

As a person full of love and caring, also having pain and question why this is so hard to understand

As much as Maleficent has dealt with her trauma, some people in her life still choose to reprimand

For who Maleficent has become, being loved for all overcome, is what is asked of people in her life

Maleficent knows others may never understand her, yet her best life is a life without strife

Maleficent learned from the past, hurt yet is finding peace, trying to erase each nightmare carefully

Still wanting alone time, that will never change, wanting to feel fulfilled, complete, to live peacefully
