Deep, Dark Secrets

BY: LIZ HARDIE

Deep, dark secrets she has held on to for many years

She must be careful who she speaks to, as she feels she may be misunderstood

Living in silence is so much easier than showing who you are

Hiding in the dark with her thoughts always seemed best

Knowing no matter what, she will always have emotional scars

Rarely speaking or standing up for herself in life

It was easier to live in silence, no memories brought up from her past

There are always clouds, God, birds, and animals to speak to

They listen with no questions asked

But even with her silence, some can see right through

They can see there is something hidden behind those dark eyes

Silence may soften your voice, but it can harden your soul

Being scared is easier for her, speaking up will never bring blue skies

Maybe it could help her heal, but does she want to get out of here

She likes silence, her quiet place that no one else can be in

Although it holds those deep, dark secrets, it is only for her to visit

Yet darkness can take her to other places, places she never wished she’d been

Silence can always be your friend, just don’t spend too much time alone in the dark

Not everyone wants the best for her, so she must be careful who she talks to

Once her silence has been broken, a sense of relief should be lifted

Deep down, she may always have a pit lurking, but she must try to embrace the new you

Knowing she controls her destiny and her life now

It is hard to get into her head and find the words to speak out

But one day she wants to look back and realize it was the best thing she ever allowed
