A STRANGER

BY: LIZ HARDIE

He started out as a stranger to her, someone she had met

Time flew by, love grew, a stranger turned to friend, turned to keeper of secrets

She never thought someone she loved and trusted with her life could become such a stranger.

Awkward moments with no communication or harsh words put their relationship in danger

Her feelings for him may have ceased, and respect has been lost

Once someone she trusted with many secrets, now no eye contact is made when paths cross

Why this happens, she wonders, is that no one will ever have the correct answer

There could be many reasons, but until communication is made, the blame should not be transferred

Looking at him now, she freezes and sees a stranger, someone she may have never really known

Did it take that long for true colors to be shown

She wonders if her feelings ever really mattered to him

Never will she criticize or judge him, although he found it easy to hurt and condemn

Loving someone means giving their all, forgiving, and always being there

She would give up everything for his happiness, to show how much she loved and cared

Yet once she heard harsh words and felt harsh actions, it felt like a knife through her heart

No true care, no real love, he was waiting to cause her hurt

Using her, abusing her, causing her pain, with him around, she was always on alert

Each day, she questioned why she may have kept him in her life for so long

Believing he may love her, she kept the faith, trying to remain strong

Emotions and stress are always high; this angry, unhappy, abusive person she no longer recognizes

Each time she hears him speak, she braces herself, as she can see the evil in his eyes

How she ever trusted him, lived with him, loved him, believed in him, she will never know

A stranger that fooled her, lied to her, seeing who he really was when true colors showed

Keeper of secrets turned to a stranger, love diminished and vanished
