GASLIGHTING

By: Liz Hardie

Gaslighting, her reality became untrue, he used this technique to silence her

Found just the right time to start manipulating

Words he said, the love he gave, and the promises he made

They were all lies, her head he was controlling

Refusing to believe he ever made her sad enough to cry

Using her emotions and depression against her, he believed she needed help, yet questioned her on why

Always telling her, she would never get custody of their girl

She would never win, she was weak and crazy, there would be hell to pay if she even tried to give it a whirl

He put her down daily, no wonder she was so quiet, meek and insecure

It was easier to go about his own life and call her a bore

He was seeking attention from anyone, everyone

Being called out on it made him angry, to him, she was jealous, just hating on his fun

He always had something to hide, but she feared any conversations, never asking

Pride in his status, professional and personal, the glory he was basking in

Financially, he felt he was the only one who could provide

Afraid he was right, she cleared all spending with him, by his rules she would abide

Knowing deep down this probably wasn’t right, he was the spender, and he knew just what to say

Gaslighting, using just the right words to gain control, to belittle, make it her fault, so he would get his way

Alcohol use became such an issue for him, he even started denying the use

Questioning and stalking her if she made plans with friends, so she would just bail with excuses

Time with her family and friends became little to none, it just was not worth the fight

He knew her friends kept her happy and stable; the isolation seemed to give him delight

Taking his time, he wore her down day by day, making her believe it all

Sad, she truly believed she could trust him to catch her when she would fall

In reality, he was crushing her spirits, beating her down second by second, not lifting them

He was using her for his own personal gains, while he’d condemn her every move

They always did things his way on his terms every day

Wanting to be better than his father is another lie he would continually say

She finally realized the gaslighting, and in front of her, she saw the disgusting, lying, controlling man that she married

He is just a sad little boy who manipulates, builds his ego by hurting, as abuse on his wife is carried out

She was a willing victim of his power and control, his constant deceit and lies

He caused constant pain and tears, when it should have been him in therapy, drying his tears

She will never feel bad for him, his sadness, his demons need to be faced, or forever it will last

The issues he caused for her and the children are disgusting; their lives you tried to ruin and trash

Blaming himself would be a travesty, so it was always and will always be her fault

Their family, their marriage ended because of her allowing him to continually abuse her and rub her internal wounds with salt

He lied, manipulated, controlled, cheated, was angry and loved his ego more than them

If it makes it easier for him to sleep at night, go ahead and blame her, but good luck, to a sad, lonely existence he will be condemned

Gaslighting her is now a thing of the past, she realized what she deserves and how she needs to live

She will never love anyone who only wants power and control, taking a trillion times more than they will ever give.
