Head Games

BY: LIZ HARDIE

Head games played by others can either make you or break you

It was her choice, her decision on how she would follow through

Does she let them hurt her, break her down completely, emotionally and physically

Or does she rise above the games, hurtful words, and just be who she is meant to be

For years, she chose to be manipulated and controlled, head games played consumed her mind

Letting others take advantage of her, yet she remained true to her beliefs, remaining kind

But she still did not know who she was; the games they played only messed with her more

As days and years passed, she questioned her worth, why she was living this life, and she was not sure

She had always been taught to keep the faith, stay positive, and believe that good things would come

Fighting through her emotions and pain, she was finally ready to take a stand, their cover was blown

Was it her fault that she dealt with it each time, held onto the pain, and took every dagger they threw

She doesn’t have a clear-cut answer to that, but with each dagger, her strength grew

Love is never a game; it should be handled with gentleness and care

Secrets and lies pushed them farther apart, was it her fault they were cruel, deceitful, and insincere

Manipulating her to be what they wanted her to be, to try and make up for all they lack

Controlling her body, emotions, and thoughts were all disgusting acts

Stealing her self-esteem, self-control, strength, and self-confidence, just to build up their own

Truly took every ounce of dignity she ever had, saying it’s love, yet she never felt so alone

Head games played by others can either make you or break you

Finally, she was able to get out, not letting the head games go on, yet they acted like the victim, no clue

Manipulators, controllers, narcissists, they never feel they are to blame

Being involved with one for so long, she knew she had to be strong enough to quickly exit their game

Many do not know how to love, care, be gentle, or be kind

Taking every ounce of energy and peace from her emotionally and physically, that’s all they have on their mind

Their head games took over her life for way too many years, and it was pure hell

But she rose above, able to find some strength, self-confidence, and to the players she said farewell

It may have taken her longer than she wanted or longer than it should

Many lessons were learned throughout, seeing more clearly, so much more about life and herself, she finally understood
