As children we ask, “Are there monsters among us; monster under my bed?”
The answer was, “No” and I was never told, “Beware of who you fall in love with.”
Monsters are described as ugly and frightening
Those you fall in love with can be both, monsters are not a myth
They are humans, dressed in normal clothes
A beautiful person with a kind, heart, as gentle as a lamb
Full attention and love, with a soul as pure as silk
All seems right, you coexist in a perfect world, then BAM!
The monster surfaces and rears its ugly head
A darkened soul with a cold heart, filled with sadness
Controlling and hurting others brings them satisfaction, fills that hole
The hole created by someone, fueling their madness
Monsters steal your heart and crush your dreams
They disguise themselves well, appearing anytime day and night
Beware of who you give your heart to and share your hopes
Monsters live among us, waiting to use and abuse, to dim your light.
